The first session of the 44th Parliament of Ontario kicked off yesterday as Lieutenant-Governor Edith Dumont read her speech from the throne, outlining goals and priorities.
Some of the highlights include $11 billion in urgent relief – helping businesses provide fiscal flexibility to adapt and confront what Dumont called the growing challenge of economic uncertainty thanks to US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Dumont also says as first order of business, Ontario will introduce legislation for free trade within Canada, adding goods and services from other parts of the country will be treated the same in Ontario, if other provinces and territories do the same and hard-earned credentials from other provinces and territories will also be recognized automatically.
Another highlight was how the province will look to be a leading voice in the federation for new railways, highways, airports and seaports all while championing new pipelines. Billions will also be invested to upgrade thousands of long-term care beds and Dumont ads the province will also be expanding public transit.
