Heavy rain is coming for most of southwestern Ontario this weekend, and Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a weather alert.
“Significant rainfall is possible this weekend. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” according to the weather agency.
The alert applies to Caledon, Orangeville, Waterloo, London, Kitchener, Windsor, Chatham-Kent, Cambridge, Guelph, New Tecumseth, Innisfil, Collingwood, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Parry Sound, Kearney and Sundridge.
The rain is scheduled to arrive Saturday evening and continue through Sunday night. Total rainfall amounts are likely to range from 20 to 40 millimetres.
“With a risk of thunderstorms, local rainfall amounts above 40 millimetres are possible over some areas,” said the alert. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads are possible.”
