Brampton teenager charged in connection with fatal collision

Provincial police in Caledon have laid charges in connection to a fatal collision in August of 2024.

On Aug. 27 just before 1 a.m., police responded to a collision where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Mayfield Road, near McLauglin Road. The 60-year-old Brampton man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect was arrested yesterday after a months-long joint investigation by the OPP Central Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team and the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit.

A 16-year-old from Brampton has been charged with failing to stop at an accident resulting in death. They also face charges of being unaccompanied by a qualified driver and driving at an unlawful hour while holding a G1 licence.

The accused can not be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are being held in custody pending the outcome of a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.
