Collision leads to charges for Brampton man

Provincial Police in Caledon have laid impaired and other charges after a single-vehicle accident in the town.

Police responded to the Jan. 13 collision just after 9 p.m. on Torbram Road just south of Old School Road. During the investigation, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

A 22-year-old from Brampton was charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level above zero as a novice driver and having liquor readily available.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 30 to answer for the charges.
Caledon OPP spokesperson Ryan Bonello said novice drivers need to be aware of the rules.

“There are consequences for novice and young drivers when it comes to the consumption of alcohol or drugs. Ontario drivers with the licence class of G1 or G2 are considered novice and those under the age of 22 are considered young drivers.”

He added young and novice drivers cannot consume any alcohol or drugs before operating a motor vehicle.

“There is a zero-tolerance policy for impaired drivers on our roads. The OPP is committed to ensuring all drivers understand the rules and consequences before getting behind the wheel.”
