Police in the area say they have responded to reports of attempted fraud and are letting the public know the details of a new trend.
Police say they have been contacted by people who were sent a text message from what appeared to be the Ontario government regarding traffic violations.
With the increase in photo radar-automated speed enforcement, some fraudsters are attempting to cash in on a common driving infraction. Police are reminding the public if a ticket is issued a text message will not be sent.
All tickets are mailed to the registered address of the vehicle’s owner, making them aware of the infraction and corresponding penalty.
