Young offender charged after threat at high school

Caledon Provincial Police have charged a teenager after a threat made towards a local high school.

On Dec. 11 just before 8 a.m., officers responded to a report of a social media message threatening the safety and well-being of students and staff at a local high school.

Police say uniformed officers along with the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit were quickly able to identify a suspect who was taken into police custody. The name of the school was not released.

A 17-year-old from Bolton has been charged with criminal harassment, uttering threats and mischief.

The accused is scheduled to appear in an Orangeville courtroom on Nov. 30 to answer to the charges. The identity of the charged can not be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
