Caledon and area expecting severe heat this week

Environment Canada has put Peel region under a weather warning.

The national weather agency has issued a heat warning for Caledon, Mississauga and Brampton that starts today and will run through the week.

“A prolonged heat event will begin on Monday. Dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected through most of the week,” the warning said.

Daytime highs on Monday through much of the week are expected to be 30 to 35 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 40 to 45.

“There will be little relief through the overnight as lows are expected to be 20 to 23 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 26 to 30,” it added.

Hot and humid air can also bring “deteriorating air quality” and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the “high risk category,” Environment Canada said, adding “extreme heat” can affect everyone’s health.

This heat warning is in effect for much of Ontario, with temperatures in the 30s and humidex values near or above 40 from Monday to Thursday.
