Caledon employees in public works and recreation will not be hitting the picket lines.
The town renewed the collective agreement with CUPE 966-07, which represents the outside workers, on Monday.
“We believe that this new agreement is a good first step in assuring that the town will be able to meet the staffing needs for the current and the future residents of Caledon,” said Cam Richardson, CUPE unit vice-president of the local.
The workers make up town employees from road operations and parks and recreation.
The new contract includes a 12.25 per cent wage increase over four years, retroactive to April 1 of last year, and improved benefits.
“Our staff, from those maintaining our roads and parks to our employees within recreation, play a crucial role in keeping Caledon running smoothly and ensuring our community remains a great place to live. This new agreement reflects our commitment to them and our recognition of their invaluable contributions,” said Caledon Mayor Annette Groves, in a news release.
The union representing 120 staff have been in bargaining since September. The union held a strike vote in late April when CUPE members voted 92 per cent in favour of strike action.
“We are dedicated to retaining and attracting talent,” said Tarnvir Grewal, Caledon’s chief human resources officer. “By providing competitive wages and enhanced benefits, we can continue to uphold the high standards of service that our residents expect and deserve.”
