Caledon preparing for a busy Senior’s Month

June is the month when seniors are celebrated and the Town of Caledon will recognize the hard work local older adults have done to make the community the great place it is today.

To promote wellness, social connection and education the town is partnering with community service providers, organizations, and businesses to provide a variety of free and engaging activities throughout the month.

The town’s Age-Friendly Caledon Coordinator, Kaite Sawyers, said they have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel to offer a dementia experience program.

“Participants go into individual sessions to see what it would be like to have dementia. It should be very unique and I am looking forward to taking part in that myself.”

She added the senior population in Caledon is growing and the town is constantly looking at new ways to engage them.

“People 55 and over make up more than 30 per cent of the population and 65 and up is close to 16 per cent. That is definitely going to increase over the next few years as our population grows significantly.”

If a senior needs a ride they can call Caledon Community Services at 905-584-2300 x 221 to book one. Help to register for a program is also available by calling 311.
