Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged four drivers with impaired operation and two others were issued three-day licence suspensions in a single shift.
On May 25, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police were conducting a proactive patrol in the area of St. Andrews Road and The Grange Side Road. A traffic stop led to an impaired driving charge against a 57-year-old man from Caledon.
Just before 11:00 p.m. that night police were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 10 and Forks of The Credit Road and stopped a vehicle. As a result, a 41-year-old from Toronto was charged with impaired driving, stunt driving, driving 50 km/hour over the speed limit and driving while suspended.
Less than an hour later police conducted a R.I.D.E program in the area of Innis Lake Road and Healey Road. Officers observed a vehicle turn around before entering the spot check. The driver, a 28-year-old from Arthur was eventually found and charged with impaired driving.
Just after midnight at the same R.I.D.E location, a vehicle entered the area and was met by officers. A 28-year-old Milton man was charged with impaired driving.
Police also issued two drivers a three-day licence suspension for registering a warning on a breathalyzer. First-time penalties result in an immediate three-day licence suspension and a $250 fine.
Police say drivers continue to take chances that can lead to disastrous consequences and they remain committed to taking alcohol and drug-impaired drivers off the roads. They encourage members of the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect a driver is impaired.
