More mosquitos to start the spring of 2024

You’d be right if you think we’re seeing more mosquitos these days than what we normally do.
Mosquito expert David Beresford, an associate professor at Trent University’s biology department and school of environment, says the conditions have been perfect to bring about a large number of the small flies.
He says the winter was warmer and drier than normal, which would normally lead fewer mosquitos, but that was followed by lots of rain between April and May.
Ponds were filled up by the rain and puddles were created, which Beresford says are perfect mosquito breeding grounds.
As to how to ward them off, Beresford says your wardrobe could help.
“They don’t like light colours, but they really like blue, so I usually wear a white shirt and maybe dark trousers.”
He adds that using a repellent with deet can also help ward mosquitos off.
